A Bank at the centre of the digital transformation

It’s not just what we do that matters, but how we do it. The real estate industry is currently right in the middle of a transformation process! Back in 2015, Berlin Hyp already set itself the task of being at the forefront of actively shaping this process. We asked our customers what they wanted and drew inspiration from the processes used by digital pioneers in other industries.

Internal processes completely reorganised

We have scrutinised existing business processes, sequenced them, completely redesigned them, digitalised them and are now in the process of putting everything together again – all while carrying on with business as usual.

Thanks to its intelligent networking and digitalisation of processes, Berlin Hyp has considerably optimised its internal value chain. The IT architecture follows standardised further development to an integrated SAP bank. Our credit process is now already largely digital. All parties involved can access the same database, even simultaneously. Doing double the work is a thing of the past. The entire process is now digital and more efficient, secure and transparent.

As a result, we have already made significant improvements to the flexibility, security, quality and availability of data and reporting, and can now respond to customers’ wishes and requirements in an even more agile way.

In March 2020, when we all suddenly found ourselves in the situation of needing to work from home, our business operations were able to continue seamlessly. That's when we knew we were definitely on the right track. Last but not least, all this reorganisation has also had a very sustainable added effect – our office is now essentially paperless.

What does the market offer?

Start-ups, PropTechs, FinTechs, artificial intelligence?

We closely monitor the market for interesting digitisation trends and are examining new business approaches. We also pay particular attention to digitalisation concepts in the sustainability segment. Berlin Hyp has now achieved several major milestones. In particular, this involved the successful market entry of its own start-up OnSite ImmoAgent (a crowd-based real estate inspection service), participation at the Berlin Proptech 21st Real Estate (with which artificial intelligence can effectively be used for valuation) and cooperation with Carbon Delta, examining the effects of climate risks on properties in terms of “value at risk”. We also participated in the “PropTech1” venture capital fund as part of our digitalisation strategy.

Cultural change – the secret to success

The digital transformation of our business processes is driving not only the technical but above all, the cultural change of the Bank. New features, such as higher-level digital skills, networking and mobile working have become more important, and not just since the pandemic. An exciting challenge! We see Berlin Hyp as the environment in which we are constantly developing ourselves, always inspiring and encouraging each other, and continuing to make the most of our different strengths to move forward together – for Berlin Hyp and for each and every one of us.

agile. networked. creative – Simply Working Differently

Future-oriented working methods, innovative products and the further development of the corporate culture are three factors that are driving Berlin Hyp forward. We develop innovative products, not only with our customers. In shaping the future together, we exchange ideas and share inspirations with each other.

Lateral, new thinking

Our “agile. networked. creative” vision for the future is implemented for this purpose. We create spaces that encourage lateral and new ways of thinking. We are working on building an open discussion culture across divisions and hierarchies. Future-oriented working methods, innovative products and the further development of the corporate culture are three factors that are driving Berlin Hyp forward. In particular, joint decision-making in competency groups and not only by managers requires new ways of thinking and acting.

Fostering talents

We look for ambitious junior managers and support talented young people who would like to advance their technical or management careers. We want to share our knowledge. That is why we are heading into the future by #sharinginspiration. No innovation without inspiration!

Together – Living the Change, Shaping the Future

We are convinced that progress cannot be achieved alone. Progress can only be achieved through exchange, together.

Our ecosystem:

all the actors involved around one table

At the same time, it is about the business models of tomorrow. We are talking about the crux of the matter when we discuss what our industry will earn money with in the coming decades. Quite the contrary. We analyse and implement new added value in our entrepreneurial activities. We seek and promote new ideas and solutions, new products and processes. This is not to say this is simply a playing field for avant-gardists or an end in and of itself. Because we decide today on the priorities, personnel, processes and investments of tomorrow. This calls for courage and experience, curiosity and a new risk strategy. Because the biggest risk is to not move forward and to suppress changes. Ignorance is punished, togetherness is rewarded. This is how all players in our industry interact. This is how our ecosystem works.

We are convinced

that winning is only possible together.

Therefore, it is only logical in our market to jointly find new answers to the questions of today and tomorrow. On a decision-maker level. We see how quickly our industry can come under pressure. We know that new, promising business opportunities are ahead of us. We suspect that new cooperation models will become more important in the future. The market, the old and many new stakeholders and the generations following expect new answers from us… about our products and services, our values and attitudes. The criteria by which economic operators are assessed are constantly changing. But there are opportunities here, too. Our success also depends on the success of the new answers, on their quality and community spirit. Because as with in many other areas: some things are impossible to achieve alone.

Achieving success through dialogue with our customers

For all these reasons, we invite our customers to debate with us, to be curious and honest. We want exchange and constructive dialogue that is confidential and completely open. Regardless of old roles and familiar patterns. We want to discuss, address problems for what they are and make opportunities concrete. Because we are convinced:

progress cannot be achieved alone.
Progress can only be achieved through exchange,
together!
